Art expert enters ankle territory

An art expert has been facing the wrath of a Shropshire Women's Institute after referring to a stocky lower leg as a "Shropshire ankle".

Rupert Maas made the comment while studying a piece on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow in September.

To make amends, he visited Frankwell WI where the women said they would be wearing their nicest shoes and showing their ankles were trim.

Spokeswoman Carol Pagett said they may have a "little" go at him.

She said: "We are not being maligned like that. We were not impressed."

She added she had never heard the term "Shropshire ankle" before.

On the programme, Mr Maas said he had heard the term from his mother.
