Inquest over body found in flat

An open verdict has been recorded over the death of a 47-year-old man found in a Shropshire flat.

John Lawson, 47, was discovered at the property in Farm Lodge Grove, Malinslee, Telford, on 7 February.

Telford coroner Michael Gwynne said it was clear key witnesses had been "under the influence of alcohol" and there was no clear account of what happened.

In February police said they believed Mr Lawson had been involved in an argument the previous night.

A 34-year-old man was arrested but released without charge in February.

Following the inquest Det Ch Insp David Morgan said: "Mr Gwynne has commented about the quality and reliability of these individuals as witnesses, where we've heard a number of discrepancies and inconsistencies in their accounts.

"Following this West Mercia police will need to consider carefully the events of today (Thursday) and to see what options we have to take this matter forward."
