Primary schools under same body

There has been opposition to closing or merging the schools

Two Shropshire primary schools once earmarked for closure could now both remain on their sites but be overseen by one governing body.

The county council had wanted to shut Lydbury North and Clunbury primary schools and find an alternative site.

But it has now put forward fresh proposals saying the schools could be run under a "federated governance arrangement".

Councillors will discuss the proposal next Wednesday.

Other proposals regarding schools in Shropshire include building a new school at Ashford Carbonell to serve Ashford Carbonell and Caynham, and a single school would also serve Bayston Hill, replacing Longmeadow and Oakland schools.

The following infant and junior schools will combine to form all-through primary schools:

  • The Grange Infant and Junior, Shrewsbury
  • Mount Pleasant Infant and Junior, Shrewsbury
  • Springfield Infant and Holy Cross Junior, Shrewsbury
  • - Meole Brace Infant and Junior, Shrewsbury
  • Oswestry Infant and Beech Grove Junior
