Elderly man dies after collision

An elderly driver has died after a collision involving four vehicles in south Shropshire.

Two lorries and two cars were involved in the incident on the A49 at the junction with the A4113 in Bromfield, near Ludlow, on Tuesday morning.

The driver of a Volkswagen Polo was trapped and had to be released by the fire service, police said.

He was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital with multiple injuries and died on Tuesday afternoon.

The other drivers were treated for shock and minor injuries at the scene.

A post-mortem examination was due to take place on Wednesday.

An inquest would be opened in due course, police said.
