Battalion returns home after tour

A battalion has returned to its base after completing a six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Members of the 1st Battalion, the Royal Irish Regiment, based at Tern Hill barracks, Shropshire, were reunited with their families on Wednesday.

A special service and parade is being organised in Shrewsbury to officially welcome the troops home.

About 250 soldiers along with their families are expected to attend the service on 16 October.
