A full-scale underwater search was started in the River Severn after a lorry went crashing into the water.

A full-scale underwater search was started when a lorry went crashing into the River Severn.

It was feared the driver had been swept away at Arley in Worcestershire and drowned but was later found nearby.

A search lasted several hours and the fire service said the operation would have cost thousands of pounds.

Earlier in Shropshire a man called the emergency services after being caught in flood waters while fishing in Buildwas Road, Ironbridge.

Police were able to tow his car away from the water and the man was unhurt.

Fire engines, boats and underwater search equipment were at the scene of the incident in Worcestershire and an air ambulance was flown there to be on standby.

Police said they would talk to the driver of the lorry on Wednesday.
