Ironbridge Gorge will host a number of events to start the Cultural Olympiad
Events are being held in Shropshire over the weekend to celebrate the Cultural Olympiad.
The events aim to encourage people to get involved with creative activities in the lead up to the 2012 Olympics in the UK.
Ironbridge Gorge, in Shropshire, will host a sound and light show, Victorian fun-fair and street market.
Among those taking part are Mobo award winning artist, Soweto Kinch and West Midland members of Team GB.
There will be an opportunity to see A Century of Olympic Posters, a national exhibition organised by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
'Inspire the next generation'
The Olympiad will also see other events across the West Midlands, including the opening of rarely seen natural habitats, outdoor theatrical performances, storytelling's and an urban cycling display set to light and music.
Paul Kaynes, the West Midlands Creative Programmer for 2012 said: "The cultural Olympiad is about making culture and creativity a key part of the Olympic and Paralympic experience.
"The event in Ironbridge kick-starts the West Midlands' programme in style and opening a weekend of cultural of cultural activity with over 40 events across the region...we hope it will inspire the next generation of West Midlands creators and innovators."
