River levels were not expected to peak until Monday in parts of Shropshire following heavy rain.

A flood warning is in force for the River Severn, which is expected to peak at 4m (13ft) at Shrewsbury on Monday.

Flood barriers are in place in the town and were being erected in Ironbridge on Sunday afternoon.

Police officers had to trace the owners of cars parked between the bridge and the Museum of the River so the barriers could be installed.

Schools shut

Despite the weather, Shropshire Fire Service said it was not very busy on Saturday night.

Two schools - Sundorne Secondary and Brockton School - will be closed on Monday because of flooding.

The Frankwell and St. Julians Friars car parks in Shrewsbury have also been shut.

Among the roads around the county still closed by the flooding are Lower Corve Street, in Ludlow, and the B4378 Wenlock to Shipton road.
