A Shropshire father and his five-year-old son died accidently when they were swept out to sea off the Spanish coast, a coroner has recorded.

Symon and Jay Howlett, from Market Drayton, were in the resort of Tossa de Mar last November when a wave knocked Jay and his brother Thomas from a rock.

Mr Howlett, 32, dived into the rough seas and rescued Thomas, aged nine, Shrewsbury Coroner John Ellery heard.

He then went in again to try and rescue Jay but neither were seen again.

By the time a helicopter and lifeboat arrived there was no sign of either of them.

Their bodies were later recovered from the water, 30m (98ft) from the beach.

More than 400 mourners attended their funeral, held in Market Drayton, in December.

Mr Howlett's widow Debbie previously described her husband as a "hero".
