Village postmistress admits fraud

A Shropshire postmistress has admitted defrauding her employer out of more than £80,000.

Tina Doughty, 42, of Cleobury North post office, admitted committing the frauds between January and November 2007.

Sentencing at Shrewsbury Crown Court was adjourned until the week beginning 8 September.

Royal Mail said the village post office remained closed but it was seeking someone to take it over.

A spokeswoman said: "Subpostmasters are in a unique position of trust and it is always disappointing when that trust is breached."
