Logo for new council to be chosen

One logo on the shortlist

A logo for Shropshire's new unitary authority will be decided at a meeting.

Seven options are on the shortlist, including three designed by students at Shropshire schools, with the others by a county council design team.

Shropshire Council will replace the county council and five district and borough councils in April 2009, with Telford keeping its existing authority.

A panel of 29 councillors will meet to decide the logo at Shire Hall on Wednesday.

The so-called Implementation Executive is made up of councillors from the six existing councils.

A Shropshire County Council spokesperson said: "The new logo will provide a fresh new identity for the council, delivering a strong sense of place and strengthening the public's understanding, trust and support."
