Delight over post office reprieve

A couple who run a Shrewsbury post office have said they are "over the moon" it has been saved from closure.

Greenfields, which Mohamed and Rubbina Shaheen have run for about two years, had been earmarked for closure.

The couple praised the "massive support" they had from local people during a campaign to save it, which included a petition being gathered.

The Post Office has yet to comment on Greenfields. Other branches in the county could still be closed.

'Share everything'

Residents signed a petition, wrote to the MP for Shrewsbury Daniel Kawczynski, and to the Post Office to show their support.

Mr Shaheen, who lives at the site, said the couple were "very lucky" and "very delighted".

He said: "With this support I think we have won the place for Greenfields.

"We had thought of different options, because without the post office, the shop on its own would not have been sustainable."

Mrs Shaheen said she was surprised by the level of support.

"I love meeting the people and I love doing the work and chatting to everyone, especially the old folk that come through," she said.

"They've always got something to tell you - they share everything with you."
