MP expresses fears over post plan

An MP who has chaired several public meetings to discuss threats to post offices has said the closure programme is unlikely to be reversed.

Sixteen post office branches have been earmarked to close in Shropshire.

Five public meetings chaired by Conservative MP for Ludlow, Philip Dunne, were held in the south of the county on Friday.

Mr Dunne said only a small number of post offices in the Midlands have been saved so far.

"The evidence from a third of the areas that have completed the exercise is that very, very few post offices indeed are saved, despite the campaigns that are mounted," he said.

"I think there are three areas within the East and West Midlands that have been completed so far and only four post offices out of about 600 have been saved."
