Residents oppose schools merger

Residents in a Shropshire village have voted overwhelmingly against plans to merge two primary schools.

Up to 75% of residents in Bayston Hill, near Shrewsbury, who voted said in a parish poll they did not want Oakland and Longmeadow schools to merge.

A final decision will be taken by Shropshire County Council later this year.

The council dropped plans to shut 22 schools earlier this year, but is still looking at a number of mergers.
