Police are investigating how a car left a road and ploughed into a house.

Emergency crews were called to the A49 in Dorrington, Shropshire in the early hours and found the Mondeo estate had crashed into the kitchen.

The driver, a man in his 60s, suffered minor injuries and the occupants of the house were upstairs in a bedroom.

Lewis Bennett, who lives in the house with his partner Cerrie-Anne Lysaght, had been in the kitchen making a drink minutes before the crash.

He told BBC News that he was having trouble sleeping so he got up and went into the kitchen and had a drink.

The couple cannot stay in the house

"I couldn't sleep and the next thing I knew, there was a car in the house.

"I heard a big bang and did not know what it was and we came out and saw the car.

"A car parked in your kitchen isn't something you see every day.

"It all just happened in a bit of a blur."

The couple, both in their 20s, said they have seen the driver of the car since the collision who, although unhurt, was shaken by the incident.

They have been told to leave the house now the car has been removed and plan to stay with friends or family.
