John Butterworth
John Butterworth has spent 35 years in journalism
The long-standing editor of the Shrewsbury and North Shropshire Chronicles is among those listed in the New Year Honours list.

John Butterworth, who has helped raise £4m for charity, has been appointed MBE for services to journalism and charity.

He said: "I am delighted for myself and my family and quite humbled."

Also on the list is Michael Howe, who has become a MBE for his 42 years of service as a firefighter in Market Drayton, Shropshire.

He said: "I feel humbled that someone, somewhere has put my name forward."

OBE

  • Roy James Harrison, chairman of governors, Thomas Telford School; Governor Sandwell Academy; Chairman, Building Construction Committee, Madeley Academy, Shropshire. For services to education.

    Robert Ryan Jervis, head teacher, Adcote Girls School and previously Lakelands School, Ellesmere, Shropshire. For services to education.

    David John Kendall, principal, Derwen Independent Specialist College, Shropshire. For services to special needs education.

MBE

  • John Leslie Harold Butterworth, editor, Shrewsbury and North Shropshire Chronicles. For services to journalism and to charity.

    Michael George Howe, station manager (retained), Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service. For services to local government.

    Mrs Diana June Middleton, JP. For charitable services.

    Mrs Ann Elizabeth Trevor-Jones. For services to the National Garden Scheme and to the community in Shropshire.
