Flood warning issued for Severn
A flood warning has been issued for the River Severn in Shrewsbury.

Rising water levels has meant the Frankwell car park, which is next to the river in Shrewsbury town centre, has been closed.

The river is expected to peak at 3.1m which is just enough for it to flood, prompting the council to close it.

A flood alert remains in place on the River Severn for other parts of Shropshire, a spokesman for the Environment Agency said.

A decision will be taken later whether to erect flood barriers in Ironbridge, they added.

Three football matches have been cancelled - Wolverhampton Casuals v Bridgnorth Town, Bridgnorth's reserves against Creswell and Telford United's game against Leigh.

Gravel Hill Lane, Coton Hill, Sydney Avenue, and Castlefields in Shrewsbury are also closed until further notice.
