Appeal against unitary councils
Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council
Shrewsbury says it has not paid any money towards the appeal
A challenge to plans for the creation of a unitary council in Shropshire is to be heard by the Court of Appeal.

A two-and-a-half day hearing will start on 28 or 29 January in front of Lords Justice Waller, Richards and Lloyd.

The initial case by Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council and Congleton Borough Council was rejected at the original hearing in September.

Congleton has lodged an appeal, with support from Shrewsbury, in a final attempt to stop the reorganisation.

The local authorities claimed the government acted unlawfully when inviting bids for unitary status.
