Probe follows football violence
Police are investigating an outbreak of trouble between football fans before an FA Cup match.

The incident involved supporters of Shrewsbury Town and Walsall ahead of the game at Bescot stadium last Saturday.

Up to 40 fans - some armed with sticks - clashed near Tame Bridge Parkway railway station in Wednesbury.

Sgt Daniel Gregory of British Transport Police said traffic was forced to stop when fighting spilled into the road.

"I was actually there with five other officers," he said.

"When we alighted at the station to separate the two groups, a number of vehicles had to stop abruptly in a major road outside the station.

"We are looking for witnesses from the vehicles and any local residents as it was in a residential estate."
