Judge's portrait deters drinkers
Judge Robin Onions
The judge made his comments during an affray case
A judge has said pubs should hang up his portrait to show drinkers who they could end up in front of if they over-indulge this Christmas.

Robin Onions said a picture of him in full regalia would remind young people to avoid drink-fuelled violence.

The comments were made during an affray case on Monday, following an attack by a gang in Telford last Christmas.

The four teenagers involved were given night-time curfews preventing them from going out on the town this yuletide.

Anthony Sheriff of Oakfield Road, Aaeron Minshall of Acorn Way, William Clemson of Bratton Road and Adam Whittingham of Horse Chestnut Drive all admitted affray.

Shrewsbury Crown Court heard how the 19-year-olds punched and kicked Ian Thomas, who was also in a group, after someone had said "Merry Christmas".

Mr Thomas received injuries which needed hospital treatment.

"Four to one is not good and strikes me as cowardly", said the judge.

Sentencing the quartet, Judge Onions said: "Each of you have let down your parents. Drinking too much and getting into trouble is not sensible".

Speaking after the hearing he said his comments were a light-hearted attempt to prevent youngsters ruining their lives through drink.
