Librarians want to reverse the decline of people borrowing books
A Shropshire library is taking books into local businesses in an effort to get more people borrowing them.

Staff from Shrewsbury have started the trial scheme in an attempt to reverse the trend of fewer people using its book service.

They visited Marks and Spencer in the town on Monday to meet staff and discover what they like reading.

Librarian Elaine Moss said the idea was to dispel the image that many people have of libraries.

"It's a way of making people go a bit more. There's very little effort, they can see a book they fancy reading, sign their name on a sheet and take it away," she said.

"Hopefully that will lead to them coming into the library and finding out just what we've got.

"Some people think that libraries haven't got the latest books, so we made an effort to bring some of the latest best-sellers."
