Five hundred new affordable homes are to be built in Shropshire over the next five years.

They will be available to people who already live in the county and can prove strong local links.

The newly-launched Shropshire Housing Group will be an umbrella group covering Meres and Mosses and South Shropshire Housing Association.

The group, which also includes property company Total Response Limited, will be responsible for 4,500 homes.

It is committed to offering its tenants decent standards of housing and will also develop a range of support services and provide maintenance and technical services property owners in the county.
