A council is to pay for the first phase of work to restore an historic railway station in Shropshire.
Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council has agreed to allow £140,000 to be used to pay for the first stage of work on Abbey Foregate station in the town.
Under the plans the main building will be restored and a display area created.
The station, which closed in 1960, was built to form the Potteries, Shrewsbury and North Wales Railway, but the line never reached the two areas.
It is hoped an application for Heritage Lottery funding will be agreed and used to pay for the second phase which includes an exhibition space.
