The man thought to have shot and killed a policeman in Shropshire was known to the police force, it has been revealed.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is reviewing any contact police had with Peter Medlicott before Sunday's shooting of Pc Richard Gray.

Pc Gray was shot at the scene of a domestic violence incident in Shrewsbury. Mr Medlicott was later found dead with a wound to the head.

Mr Medlicott had been arrested for assault on 10 April.

The IPCC also said it would review circumstances in which Mr Medlicott had come to hold firearms.

John Crawley, Commissioner for West Mercia, said: "Following the horrific events unfolded on Sunday the IPCC has been in continuous contact with West Mercia Constabulary to agree how, working together, we can best ensure any lessons for the future are learned."
