Daniel Kawczynski
Daniel Kawczynski cannot be sued for libel for his Commons statement
Police are investigating a complaint from a Shropshire MP about Labour members allegedly "manipulating postal votes" at his local sorting office.

Daniel Kawczynski, Conservative MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham, told the House of Commons last month that he had been made aware of the allegations.

He also repeated allegations of fraud about Labour's candidate for the next general election, John Tandy.

Mr Tandy strenuously denied the allegations and urged the MP to resign.

Det Ch Insp Gary Higgins, from West Mercia Police, confirmed it had received a complaint but could make no further comment until the investigation was completed.

Mr Kawczynski's allegation surrounds Labour members at Shrewsbury's sorting office.

After making his comments the issue of parliamentary privilege was raised in the Commons.

MPs cannot be sued for libel for any statement they make in Parliament.
