Parking charges scheme scrapped
Plans for parking charges in three Shropshire towns have been scrapped.

Pay-and-display machines were proposed for Whitchurch, Wem and Ellesmere but the scheme was thrown out at a meeting of North Shropshire District Council.

The Mayor of Wem, Peggy Carson, said traders were worried that people would decide to shop elsewhere.

She added: "If Wem would only generate £18,000 over 12 months, it's a drop in the ocean quite honestly, when you weigh up the economy of the town."
