History repeats itself on buses
A fleet of 13 park and ride buses in Shrewsbury are to be named after their predecessors, which ran in the days before the internal combustion engine.

More than 200 people took part in a competition to name the buses.

Themes ranged from famous Shropshire hills to star signs, and from dinosaurs to birthstones.

The winning suggestion from Peter Brown of Market Drayton was to name the buses after the famous stagecoaches that used to take people to and from Shrewsbury.

His carefully researched list of names includes the 'Shamrock', 'Oxonian' and 'Prince of Wales' which used to run from London; the 'Union' which plied its way from Bristol; the 'Hibernia' which ran from Cheltenham; and the 'Victory' which brought people from Manchester.

Arriva Midlands, who own the buses and operate the Park & Ride service, will soon be branding the buses with their new identities - so people can have a flavour of the past while enjoying the speed and comfort of the 21st Century.
