A man who tried to surprise his girlfriend with a bunch of flowers got a shock himself when a stowaway tropical frog appeared in the blooms.

Kerry Swinton, from Telford, Shropshire, was in a car admiring the petals when she said she noticed a pair of eyes looking back at her.

Boyfriend Alec Webster said: "I thought she was exaggerating, but it was quite shocking to see a frog in there."

The South American leaf frog is now being cared for by a specialist shop.

The couple had initially thought the frog might be poisonous, but a spokesman for Shropshire Exotics, in Newport, said it was relatively harmless.
