Good start to recycling scheme
The amount of rubbish going to landfill sites from North Shropshire has been reduced by 17% in just one week.

A new collection service began in the district on Monday and since then, more than 70 tonnes of recycling waste has been collected.

North Shropshire District Council said if it continues at the same rate, government targets for recycling will be exceeded by the end of the year.

That would mean the council was recycling 36% of waste collected.

Councillor Barbara Bate, the council's lead member for waste & recycling, said: "This is an excellent start to the scheme, we would like to thank the people of North Shropshire for their support and participation.

"North Shropshire District Council has a priority of increasing recycling and reducing waste within the district."

Of the 70 tonnes of recycling already collected, 42 tonnes was paper, 23 tonnes was glass and 5 tonnes was cans.
