Historic quarry site to re-open
A disused quarry near Shrewsbury is to be re-opened to supply stone roofing tiles for historic buildings.

Park Wood Quarry at Acton Burnell was shut in 1999. Stone from the site had been used to provide roofing tiles for Pitchford Hall and Pitchford church.

Operators are anticipating orders from owners of listed buildings.

They have now been given the go-ahead by planners to re-open the quarry until October 2007, on condition surrounding land is restored within six months.

Councillors were told that the stone tiles made a significant contribution to the character of Shropshire's historic buildings and that no other source was available.
