Parking charges enforced in towns
Car parking fees in Wellington and Newport, which campaigners have tried to stop, have now come into force.

The plans were approved at a Telford and Wrekin Borough Council meeting in July despite 80 protesters attending.

Campaigners say they will carry out a threat to put up candidates at the next election against councillors who backed the charges.

A meeting will be held on Tuesday night at the Red Lion pub in Wellington to discuss forming a non-political party.

The council had proposed to introduce parking charges across the entire borough, but that was amended two days before a vote to only Newport and Wellington.

Newport and Wellington Town Council is considering whether to launch a legal challenge against the charges.
