A man has been seriously injured following a collision involving five vehicles in Newport.

The accident happened at around 1550 BST on the A41 at the junction of Edgmond Road and Forton Island.

The driver of a Vauxhall Zafira was flown to North Staffordshire Hospital with a suspected fractured neck, leg, and pelvis.

The driver of a van suffered cuts and bruises. A Nissan Micra, Volvo S80 and articulated lorry were also involved.

The road was closed until 2000 BST while debris was cleared from the scene.
