Warning issued over bogus police in North Oxfordshire

At least two men stole hundreds of pounds from an elderly couple in Bicester after telling them they were police officers executing a warrant.

They forced their way into the house at about 1700 GMT on Tuesday, Thames Valley Police said.

Later that evening, there was a similar incident in Banbury but nothing was taken.

Police said they believed the men were wearing white shirts with stab vests and appealed for witnesses.

In the first incident, up to three men forced their way into the house on Ray Road and kept the couple, in their 80s, in the living room while another searched the property.

Shortly before 2000 GMT, a man posing as a police officer called at the home of an 83-year-old man at a house in The Fairway, Banbury.

The caller told the elderly man he was a police officer, but he did not believe him and decided to shut the door.

Det Sgt Gavin Collier said: "We believe that there were three men at the first distraction burglary, but only one man was seen at the second incident.

"There have been reports that a dark blue or black Ford Focus, possibly four years old, of a sporty model, has been seen in the vicinity of both these incidents."
