Police said the Carnage UK tour had previously visited the city

Police are warning students they will not tolerate anti-social or drunken behaviour during an organised pub-crawl planned for Oxford on Thursday. Carnage UK has arranged a themed night involving more than 1,000 students in the city. The firm's events sparked controversy when one student was photographed urinating on a war memorial during a pub-crawl in Sheffield. No one from Carnage UK was available for comment. The National Union of Students has called for the events to be banned. 'Drunken disorder' Insp Matt Bullivant, from Thames Valley Police, said: "The Carnage UK tour has previously visited the city on other occasions and the nights have passed off without any significant incidents occurring. "This is thanks to the robust policing tactics employed in the city centre by Thames Valley Police as part of the ongoing Operation Nightsafe initiative and the close working relationship the force has with partnership agencies and licensees in the town.
"Thames Valley Police will not tolerate any anti-social behaviour or drunken disorder and I would urge those students taking part in this event to ensure that they behave in a sensible manner and stay out of trouble." Oxford Brookes Student Union said it was concerned about Carnage UK's visit to Oxford and backed the NUS campaign to ban the events. Abeiku Sarbah, union president, said: "Oxford Brookes SU has not supported or promoted this event in anyway. "We run regular campaigns around responsible drinking and students should be mindful of the dangers of these kinds of events not only to themselves, but the potential impact they can have on the community. "Our student body knows the standards that are expected by the university and these are standards the Students' Union fully supports."
