Travelodge axes jobs at main base

Budget hotel chain Travelodge has confirmed 15 staff jobs are being cut from its head office in Thame, Oxfordshire.

The company said an "aggressive price war" in the hotel industry had led to the cuts.

Job losses would be made from each central department as part of a cost review, a spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, the firm has announced that seven new hotels will open in the coming weeks, creating 150 jobs.

Sites have been built in Newquay, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Norwich, Macclesfield and Farnborough.

Travelodge said the expansion plan would cost £22m.
