Bags worth of rubbish were left near the ancient monument
Two people have been arrested after police broke up an illegal rave near an ancient monument in Oxfordshire.
More than 100 people were at the event on Sunday night near Wayland Smithy, a neolithic tomb near the Uffington White Horse.
A 33-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man were arrested by police on suspicion of drugs offences.
No damage was done to the ancient site but the area was left scattered with rubbish.
Workers from the Vale of White Horse council bagged up the rubbish and will remove it later.
Walkers using the Ridgeway footpath were shocked by what they saw.
Fiona Ambidge, 55, said: "This is the first time I've seen so much rubbish up here.
"There's gas canisters, faeces - people can have a party but they need to clear up.
"I think everyone will be quite saddened to see what's happened here."
