Children help design new school

An Oxford primary school is to be replaced with a new building costing several million pounds.

Pupils, parents and teachers have offered ideas for the design of the new Rose Hill Primary, due to open by 2013.

The existing school was opened in 1951 and has a leaking roof, windows that do not open and a poor layout, says head Sue Mortimer.

Funding has come from the Department for Children, Schools and Families and its Primary Capital Programme.

The old school, which has 316 pupils, will stay open until its replacement is ready for use.

Ms Mortimer said the children had been asked about their "visionary dreams" for the new school.

Parents and teachers had also been consulted and now an architect will come to do a site survey, said Ms Mortimer.
