Pop star Jason Donovan has sung for hundreds of health workers at the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford.

The Australian star lives near Wantage and the exclusive gig marked the end of a three-week UK tour.

The performance was to thank staff for their hard work and to raise money for the children's hospital.

Jason Donovan, who did an unannounced sing-along last year, said: "We thought it would be a nice idea to do the last date of the tour for hospital staff."

'So intimate'

Before the performance Donovan, who had hits with Too Many Broken Hearts, Especially For You, and Any Dream Will Do, met 50 members of staff to sign autographs and take pictures.

His children Zac, seven, and Jemma, eight, sold signed programmes at the door.

Medical secretary and concert-goer, Mandy Hunt, 33, said: "It felt so intimate. He chatted about the hospital and his kids were watching from the side of the stage, which was great."

Life-long fan, Jo Lewis-Wood, 23, asked him to sign a cassette album she bought almost 20 years ago.

The clinical auditor said: "This was one of the best concerts I have ever been to because he really involved the audience and included all his best known hits."

The singer first helped the children's hospital by donating the money raised by people phoning in to vote for him on ITV1's jungle show "I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here.", and he has been involved with the hospital ever since.

"Jason has helped us out with various events," said fundraiser, Graham Brogden.

"He has made private visits to see children, patients and families on the ward.

"Jason is very keen to do what he can and help raise the profile. The guy had just finished an 18 date UK tour the night before and did the full one-and-a-half hour show and you can't ask for more than that."
