More armed robberies being linked

Detectives said they believe two armed robberies in Oxford over the weekend may be linked to three other attacks last week.

On Sunday a man was threatened with a gun and robbed behind the Co-op store in Summertown and on Saturday Ladbrokes in Headington was targeted.

Last week two bus drivers and a taxi driver were also robbed at gun-point.

The police said they were working hard to find out who was responsible for this string of attacks.

'Violent crimes'

Det Insp Simon Morton said: "Although the descriptions of the robbers are slightly different, I believe these incidents at the weekend could be linked with the two robberies that happened on buses and on the taxi driver last week."

The robber was a man, thought to be between 5ft 6ins and 6ft tall. He has been described as either white, Asian or of Middle Eastern appearance.

The police have called the crimes "violent".

The taxi driver, who was robbed in Headington on Thursday night, had a chain put around his neck and was hit on the head with a gun.
