Historic printing firm goes bust

The Alden HenDi site in Witney
One employee described the news as "catastrophic"

A historic Oxfordshire printing firm has gone into administration - putting up to 160 jobs at risk.

Alden HenDi, based at De Haviland Way in Witney, provides printing and translation services and produces academic journals and magazines.

Administrators said the company was a victim of the current economic climate.

The Alden Group was established by devout Baptist Henry Alden in 1832 to publish anti-slavery pamphlets, and also printed Oxford's first guide book.

Alden HenDi was formed in June 2008 when the Alden Group merged with HenDi Systems.

Administrator to Alden HenDi Mark Orten said: "It is a particularly difficult time in the printing sector."

The workforce are being advised on the next steps.

One employee described the fall of the company as "catastrophic."
