Historic pub loses roof in blaze

One of the oldest pubs in Chipping Norton has lost its roof in a fire.

Eight engines were called to reports of a blaze at the Blue Boar public house - formerly a 17th Century coaching inn, on Monday afternoon.

A fire which is thought to have started in a bedroom spread around the first floor and into the roof, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

The slates and beams were stripped to prevent the fire from spreading and the blaze was brought under control.

The High Street is closed from Horse-fair to the town centre, diversions have been put in place.

There are no reports of any injuries.

The fire service said: "The quick actions of the first appliances prevented a serious fire from becoming a major fire affecting the whole of the building."
