Peter Reed has just announced he will compete in London 2012

Oxfordshire's Olympians and Paralympians from this summer's Beijing Games have been honoured at a civic reception in Oxford.

Sir Roger Bannister - the first man to run a mile under four minutes - greeted the athletes at the town hall and they were awarded certificates of honour.

They included Peter Reed who won rowing gold in the men's coxless fours.

He said: "It's really nice to be back. We've all had a really warm reception and I feel very very proud to be here."

The gold medallist has also announced he will be competing in London 2012.

He added: "I'm aching at the moment because I'm back in in training - and it's horrible."
