Scalded teenager's organs failed

Home in Owens Way in Cowley
Ms Hasselberg-Langley suffered burns at the care home

A disabled teenager who was scalded in a bath at a care home in Oxford died of multiple organ failure, an inquest has been told.

Yelena Hasselberg-Langley, 18, received the injuries on 27 August 2007 at the private care home in Owens Way, Cowley.

She was taken to a burns unit in East Sussex, where she died four days later.

Giving evidence, the doctor who examined Ms Langley after her death said she would have been alive today had she not received the injuries.

The doctor said she suffered 20% burns, including skin loss to her lower back, thighs and groin.

He said these injuries were conducive to being lowered into a bath of hot water.

Ms Langley needed 24-hour care because she had cerebral palsy, epilepsy and was partially-sighted.
