The police helicopter searched the Little Wittenham area

Police searching for a woman missing from her home in Berkshire have found her car and a pile of clothes near a river in Oxfordshire.

Officers say they are worried about the welfare of the woman who is in her sixties and from Lambourn.

The pile of woman's clothing was found at a lock on the River Thames at Little Wittenham, near Abingdon.

The missing woman's white Ford Scorpio estate car was discovered in a lay-by in a road nearby.

The police helicopter and tracker-dogs were used to search the area, but police divers were unable to search the river because the water was too high and running too fast.

The woman's family have requested that her name is not released at this time.

They say she is 5ft 6ins tall, wears her grey hair in a bun and has glasses.

She was reported missing on Friday morning.
