Burglars target elderly at home

Robbers have stolen cash from elderly people during a string of burglaries in Wolvercote near Oxford.

In the first of three burglaries on Thursday afternoon, an 87-year-old man let a man claiming to be from the water board into his home.

As the offender pretended to check his taps, another man stole £600 in cash.

Later, the police believe the same burglars broke into the home of an 85-year-old woman and stole £85 from her, while she was inside.

Another house in the village was also broken into.

The burglars forced their way in through a rear window and stole jewellery and £100 in cash.

Det Con Lisa Heaton, from Oxford's burglary team, said: "We believe the burglaries are linked.

"A black car with two men inside was seen in the area near to the time of the offences.

"I appeal to anyone who was in the Wolvercote area around the time of the burglaries to contact police immediately."

One of the robbers is described as white, in his thirties, around 5ft 8ins tall and was wearing a black hooded top and black trousers.
