Accused 'boasted about killing'

A 22-year-old on trial for the murder of a man in Oxford boasted about the killing on a night out with friends, a prosecution lawyer has alleged.

Enayit Khalili, 31, died in hospital from a stab wound after answering the door to his house in Fiennes Road, Rose Hill, on 24 March last year.

Martin Joyce, from Larch Hill in Bradford, Yorkshire, who is on trial at Oxford Crown Court, denies his murder.

Mr Khalili had come to the UK from Afghanistan in 2001.

He was an asylum seeker, but was later granted indefinite leave to stay in the country.

Giving evidence on the opening day of the trial, one of Mr Khalili housemates said he heard a noise and was woken by Mr Khalili holding his chest.

He said an ambulance was then called to take Mr Khalili to hospital, where he later died.

The case continues.
