Video to help people find homes

More than 4,600 households on waiting list for homes in Oxford

A new video hopes to help people in Oxford affected by the city's chronic housing shortage.

The city council said a lack of social welfare and council housing in Oxford is making it difficult for people to find affordable places to live.

It has released an online video showing home-hunters what options are available for them and where they can get help.

The video, on Oxford City Council's website, aims to provide information in a clear and understandable way.

"We hope the video will be used by residents as an introduction to the council's services and dispel myths about the housing process," said Councillor Oscar Van Nooijen.

The city believes it is facing a housing crisis, partly because house prices have tripled over the past 10 years and are much higher than the national average.

The latest figures from the council show there more than 4,600 households on its housing waiting list and at least 450 households living in temporary accommodation in Oxford.
