Man hurt in industrial accident

Paramedics found the man trapped with steel against his neck

A man was seriously hurt when he became trapped with steel against his neck at a building site at an Oxfordshire shopping centre.

Paramedics found the 28-year-old with life-threatening injuries at the new Marriotts Close Development, near Witney town centre.

An air ambulance took the man to the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Part of Welch Way was closed off as police and health and safety officials began investigating the incident.

Det Sgt Craig Kirby, of Thames Valley Police, said: "We have launched an initial investigation and are interviewing witnesses.

"Officials from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are en route and further inquiries will be carried out jointly between the HSE and Thames Valley Police."
