Car hit man's family 'devastated'

The family of a man left critically ill when he was struck by a car outside an Oxford nightclub have said they are devastated.

Richard Waters, 52, of Risinghurst, who is known as Walt, was hit in Magdalen Road near the Regal nightclub on 3 August. He is in a critical condition.

"Walt is at the heart of our very close family and we can't bear to think of him not being a part of it," they said.

Mane McKenzie, 25, of Mancheser, has been charged with attempted murder.

He was also charged with causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent to endanger life, dangerous driving and failing to stop. He was remanded in custody.

Mr Waters is a father-of-three and a grandfather-of-five, the family continued in their statement.

"Everybody who knows Walt thinks the world of him and he would do anything for anyone. He is a normal and very down to earth family man with plenty to look forward to.

"This is a very heartbreaking time for us. All of us are desperate to have Walt back home with us and to spend time together as a family again."

The family appealed for anyone who was at the Regal or anyone with information to contact police.
