Work on the A420 gets under way

Motorists are being warned about diversions that will be set up ahead of work to upgrade a route on the A420 between Oxfordshire and Swindon.

A stretch of road near Buckland from the Littleworth junction to Wadley Manor will be the focus of the improvements starting on 28 July.

The work, lasting six weeks, has been timed to coincide with the school holidays, the county council said.

An area from Wantage roundabout to the west of Carswell Lane will be shut.

A 30mph speed limit will be in force during the work, along with temporary traffic signals.

The road closures will be in force from 2030 BST to 0500 BST.

A council spokesman said: "Access for local residents will be maintained along the A420 as far as possible.

"The night closures are expected to begin on 12 August and continue for three weeks.

"There may also be a need to close the road at night for short periods outside of this time frame."
